It's only a problem if you let it get in the way of other important things. For me, it's mostly sleep and late night TV that have suffered ;) I tend to spend time checking on social media stuff when the kids and wife hit the sack.

I think we all self-regulate. I've never bought into the "you must blog this much to be relevant" argument. The same way I've never bought into having to attend every social media event going to make sure my face is known. The success of your business, your personal relationships and general happiness should be the guide that we follow. If anything feels like work, then it's not fun and we shouldn't be forcing ourselves to do it out of any sense of obligation.

Time online and quality of life are intimately related; the relationship is an ongoing transformation, and we're in the thick of it. We're in the midst of a massive social transformation, and taking a step back is a natural reaction, and part of the transformative process. Overall though, it's got tsunami force, and time online is only going to increase, although its form might not be recognizable from today's standpoint even a year from now.

I came recently to the conclusion that most of us working on the web (either social media, code, design, online products) spend too much time there... Sometimes it's obviously an addiction.

I'm currently decreasing my internet usage, and feel it's better for both the mind of the body (back, rsi etc).

So yes - I'd say less time online is definitely more :)

These are compelling and nagging questions -- that should eat away at us all.

Know Why? There is causal link between time spent online and the quality of life.

Anyone spending "too much" time online will by nature feel this angst, stress, anxiety -- and be facing similar questions, if they are honest.

I believe it is part of our adaptation to the wired world. To the new "social" in social media.
