Blogging Blind
With access to the Web mostly limited to my Blackberry over the past two weeks, I’ve been blogging blind. That is, I’ve been pretty much unaware of the “news” by not being able to easily check Techmeme, Hacker News, News.com, Blogrunner, Twitter, Google Reader, etc.
On one hand, it’s challenging to write topical blog posts when the news is quietly passing you by, or it isn’t news anymore by the time you read it in the newspaper. On the other hand, it’s liberating in that you have little choice but to write what’s on your mind, free from the draw of the news or the need to jump into the conversation of the day.
It’s hard to tell how this approach resonated with people who read my blog. The number of visitors was lower than normal but that could be due to the fact it’s summer and/or the news flow was fairly quiet. Then again, the number of RSS subscribers hit a record high, cracking the 2,300 mark for the first time.
Blogging blind is an interesting approach. It does make you think about what you’re going to write as opposed to react to what others are writing or reporting, which can be a good thing.
