The Big Macworld Announcement!

The iPhone is coming to Canada…only seven months after it was launched in the U.S.
There has to be a phrase that describes how cool things get released in other places months before they arrive in the Great White North - e.g. the Tivo, Slingbox, iTunes, etc. Perhaps something “Canada: Better Late Than Never”.
Update: There’s speculation that Steve Jobs’ keynote speech tomorrow has been leaked. If true, I hope he puts on a good show because the product announcements look pretty tame. Meanwhile, RBC analyst Mike Abramsky has a report suggesting Apple’s Q4 number were stunning. he thinks sales of Mac units were 2.5 million, up from his previous estimate of 2.4 million - consisting of 1.6 million laptops, and 900,000 desktops. He cut his iPod forecast, however, to 24.4 million to 25.3 million.

My Rogers insider said he received “confirmation” that Rogers is getting the iPhone in March. Many people have received “confirmation” in the passed so who knows if it’s true. Apparently Ted Rogers wanted to wait for the 3G version.

Does anyone really think that Apple cares about a market of around 40 million people? Seriously, if he got 1% of all Canadians to buy an iPhone, he’d have 400,000 subscribers. That isn’t even one third as many people as they got in the first few weeks in the USA.
I doubt he will make a big announcement at MacWorld about bringing the phone to Canada. People in the US will yawn.
I still think it won’t be until 2009 that we see the iPhone up for grabs from Rogers. Unless you have details from inside Rogers that include an agreement with Apple (finally).

How about:
“Canada: If we have any in the back, we’ll send them to you.”

Canada: we let others work out the kinks for us?

David - please work on your counting as you overstated the population by 21% - Canada only has 33 million people. Start counting again - I suggest starting in Newfoundland as the day starts earlier there so you will have a 29.5 hour day.

Guess we get to wait a while longer.

Unfortunately, you’re right. I hear it may be offered by Rogers in March.

I’ve heard alot of rumors surrounding the Iphone and its hopeful arrival in Canada, but unless Rogers can release the phone on a data plan thats affordable I dont really think its going to see the same kind of sucess it has in other markets.
