Alex Iskold from RWW talks about this phenomenon as the digestion phase, and I absolutely agree with it. After the massive explosion of new ideas over the past few years, people will have tried and experimented with them and are now choosing the ones to stick with. Alongside the poor American economy, 2008 will mark a shake-out of the web where the good companies survive, and the opportunists fall by the wayside.

Though some on both sides will slip through the cracks.

Mark, I think you've hit the nail on the head for most people, regarding your comment about not having enough time to listen to podcasts.

Having had some experience with podcasting, metrics generally show that while the download rates can be quite high, the drop-off rates can be pretty sharp after one or two minutes.

Perhaps more podcasters need to consider shortening their episodes!

Cheers,
Shannon
