So, I logged into GMail today only to discover my password doesn’t work.
Crap!
It also means my Google Reader, GTalk and Google Docs accounts don’t work. (Note: The only think that could have caused this problem was recent upgrade to Better GMail, a Firefox extension.)
Crap 2.0.
It shouldn’t be a problem to retrieve my password, right?
Wrong.
Google suggests that the information to retrieve it was sent to a secondary e-mail address. I’ve checked several of my secondary e-mail addresses but, so far, no luck. If that doesn’t work, Google says I can try to log in again in FIVE DAYS, and then answer a security question. FIVE DAYS? How about ONE DAY?
That’s what I get for relying on the Google empire for too many online services. I’ve been thinking about de-Googlizing myself, and now I have some more motivation.
More: Chris Pirillo ran into the same problems earlier this year but it doesn’t appear he found an answer.
Update: The silver lining to life without GMail is the amount of e-mail that I need to sift through each day has dropped dramatically. It’s kind of like when we were selling our house, and we filled a friend’s garage with a bunch of stuff to make the house look bigger than it really was. After living without all that stuff for three months, we realized we barely needed any of it.

I have noticed an extreme amount of lag with Gmail as of late. Some have suggested I have Spyware issues but I have swept my system with two different software apps and I’m clean as a whistle. I notice they have a “old Version” tab and guess what? When I click that tab after the load lag, it works just fine for me. I assume they are adding all sorts of features that are not making my lappy happy. A quick queery on Google and I notice many are seeing similar results
I dint think I’ll be putting as many eggs in the Gmail basket as I have been.
Mark – you might want to try the customer service line for adwords or adsense.
I locked myself out of an old yahoo email account not too long ago, and yahoo’s phone support was spot on. Hopefully google’s is on par.
