Stuff that caught my eye this week….
1. Universal McCann CEO Nick Brien claims that major brand marketers are tried of traditional media, and could move “50% to 60%” of their ad spending online.
Right, Nick. eMarketer expects the Web will attract a mere 7.4% of ad spending this year before climbing to 13.3% by 2011. Even Proctor & Gamble, one of the most progressive big-brand advertisers, is spending single-digits of its massive ad budget on the Web.
2. Songza.com: A cool way to search and stream all kinds of music. Even my brother’s band, Freeflow, could be found. And you can create playlists!
3. For all the talk about saving energy by installing new light bulbs, it was still a little surprising to see LED Lighting Fixtures received $16.5-million of venture capital. LLF makes light fixtures for commercial buildings and homes around LED, which consume far less energy than incandescent bulbs.
4. Write about Apple, the world comes marching to your door. My friend, Rob Hyndman, ignited a comment tsunami (88 and counting) after writing about his Leopard installation problems, while my post on Apple’s new (higher) expectations generated some healthy traffic. By the way, it looks like Steve Jobs could be getting a raise.
5. I’ve been pruning my RSS feeds. Out with the old, in with the new. Some of the new are: Dot Earth, Always New Mistakes, TechMilk and BlackRimGlasses.
6. I got a new AirPort Express through eBay. My Wi-Fi connection has never been better, and now my Slingbox actually works using a wireless connection.
7. The perils of Facebook were illustrated when nude photographs of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Jiri Tlusty appeared on a Web site. The 19-year-old posted the photos on his Facebook profile, and then shared them with a girl, who posted them online. It’s just another example of how people put all kinds of personal information on the Web without thinking about who may have access to them.
8. Love the Mac ads, especially the new one featuring the PR lady.
9. ADrive: 50GB of free storage. Sounds like it’s too good to be true.
10. Here’s a cool explanation about how Google works.

Btw, it’s “Always New Mistakes” not “Always Make Mistakes”
