The Steve Jobs Mystery Cracked!

August 6th, 2007 Posted in Apple/iPod, Blogs

Steve Jobs-1
So, the enterprising and investigative New York Times has finally solved the Steve Jobs mystery - or, at least, the mystery writer behind The Fake Steve Jobs blog. It turns out the anonymous writer is Forbes senior editor Daniel Lyons, who has been enjoying the furor (aka obsession/manhunt) over the past little while about who writes FSJ.

For one, I’m glad everything is now out in the open so Lyons can carry on with publishing his satirical novel, “Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, a Parody”, while bloggers around the world can turn their energy and attention to other more meaty options such as who really writes Marc Andreessen’s essay-like blog posts, whether Michael Arrington has stunt double who speaks at conferences while the real Michael Arrington write TechCrunch or why Facebook is so popular.

While I found the FSJ blog to be amusing with bursts of brilliant humour, I was a much bigger fan of Dead 2.0, which was also anonymously-written before curiosity (among the blogerati) killed the cat and the blog. Dead 2.0 was not only a very funny blog but consistently well-written, smart and insightful about the tech world and Silicon Valley, which made it a must-read.

For more, check out Deep Jive Interests, who suggests that FSJ will likely lose its cache now that Lyons has been revealed. DJI laments the fact it’s an established journalist as opposed to a consultant or someone within Apple. Meanwhile, Lyons says he’s taking a short break before returning to FSJ next week with a new sponsors….Forbes. ‘Nuf said.

I think that what’s getting missed in the noise about Fake Steve Jobs’ unmasking is that he’s the guy behind the Forbes attack piece “Attack of the Blogs”.

Thanks for the comment and link. I guess Lyons wants to eat his cake and have it too…or something like that. :)
