Another Day, Another Google Purchase
So Google bought Grand Central Communications to beef up its presence in the voice communications world. While there’s plenty of comment on the blogosphere, I do have a couple of thoughts: does Google have a focused M&A strategy with a singular goal is mind or is it pursuing a multi-dimensional strategy with the eventual goal of getting everything linked together? As important, when is Grand Central going to available in Canada?
Another thing about Google’s acquisition activities is they continue bolster the start-up and venture capital landscapes. Just when you think the M&A party is over, Google makes another acquisition, which, no doubt, will cause its rivals to follow suit. With Jerry Yang at the helm of Yahoo now, perhaps the competition for deals will become more intense if Yahoo can improve its strategic approach.
