Google Takes Browser Stake

Before anyone gets too excited about the possibility of the much-anticipated GBrowser, Google has bought a stake in Maxthon - ostensibly to strengthen its competitive position in the Chinese online market. Maxthon, a browser based on Internet Explorer, is extremely popular in China, and according to TechCrunch, it may account for as much as 25% of Baidu’s traffic. Baidu is the most popular Chinese search engine.
