Talking Up Technorati

April 3rd, 2007 Posted in Aside

If Technorati is looking for a suitor or more venture capital, the latest State of Technorati report is a dead giveaway. CEO David Sifry talks about how Technorati has evolved into a new media company, how tags have really exploded, and how it’s still the most popular search engine with nine million unique visitors in March. While Technorati’s traffic may be seeing strong growth, the company doesn’t seem to have much or any mojo despite the fact traffic has been jumping recently. Maybe it’s just become a solid, little business as opposed to a sexy Web 2.0 play that could be snapped up by Google, Yahoo, etc. If you wanted to get into the blog market, would you buy Technorati or be better off pursuing someone like FeedBurner? Update: Sifry’s been leaving comments all over the blogosphere, including here. Make of that, what you will..:)

    Mark,

Thanks for the nice write up. I can assure you that Technorati is most definitely not for sale or looking for money, and we’ve got a lot of really great things going on. Jeez, can’t a guy go and tout how well his company is doing without everyone getting all atwitter about primping and selling? ;-)

Keep up the great work on your blog.

I’d pick FeedBurner over Technorati given that choice. Every influential person in the world will be exposed to FeedBurner on a daily basis when reading feeds. That’s power.

Dave: Sure, you’re definitely allowed to blow your own horn - and the spike in traffic alone is worth talking about. You have to love the fact people are very interested in what Technorati’s doing.
