If you’re looking for a way to rile the Mac-ites, suggesting that Windows is more secure than Mac is a sure-fire way to do it. Symantec claims, however, this is true after completing a research report that found that Windows had the fewest number of patches and the shortest average patch development time of the five operating systems it monitored last year.

I don’t get it, your report you posted doesnt say anything about Mac patches. I dont know where youre getting your information but windows makes patches for its programs all the time. Being a Mac user, i download updates for programs maybe once every 3 months at the most.

If you truly knew how to use your old Mac, you wold not be saying that Vista is easier than Mac. I use both efficiently and Mac is much more simple. Also, thanks for pointing out that Vista is a power hog, you dont need a good computer to run Mac OS X. My old iMac G4 from 8 years ago runs it at a perfectly descent speed.

I used windows for 10 years, and then i switched to mac. Im staying here. However I want to know why some people still think that windows is better. Dont say more ppl have it because thats not a reason and it makes no difference since files and networks are compatible for both.

Mac’s are more expensive, and Windows can do heaps more.
Sure vista is a power hog, but it makes up for it, and if you dont like it, whats wrong with XP?
Windows over the board is more popular. Plus you find more mac users ranting on about how great they are, its just annoying.

Mac would do much better if they made things cheeper. I think that if pc and mac were the same prices that people would use mac. Has anyone tryed Linux? It is Great for the price!

I love how ignorant Mac users are, Mac has viruses, period. To think that with the ever growing popularity in Macs that no hacker has made a virus for their OS it ludicrous. Actually there are thousands now. The thing is windows admits this is a problem for their OS so they find viruses and fix them, also there’s a wide range of security and anti-spyware software available to windows users. Mac is the only OS that refuses to acknowledge this problem, they think they are immune. Even the more secure OS’s like Linux, BSD, Solaris, and Unix have anti-virus software. You know what happens when you call in to apple saying you have a virus on your iMac? The operator laughs at you and calls you an idiot. The problem with apple is that they’re greedy as !@#$ they made the executive decision for us that we don’t need the ability to choose what we do and do not want. You can’t use any other brand of computer with their OS, there’s infinite problems using any apple product with anything other than a Mac. Quicktime is the biggest culprit with all the bugs and blue screens. Plus you only get 1 free support call to them then you have to start paying them to get help because their product is faulty. They just don’t care about their customers. Sure they have sexy sleek and cool products but what good are they when they break and you’re left helpless or with empty pockets?
P.S. - I have never supported Apple by buying one of their products all this info is from seeing every apple product my friends and family have bought being broken or buggy and seeing them try to get it fixed. The only time they receive help is when their extended warranty with Futureshop or BestBuy covers their problem

I personally use Windows. I have both a MAC running OS X and its a very similar spec to my Windows running Computer, 4gb RAM 3.4 Quad Core Proccesor, my Mac is not too disimilar. They Both run extrememly smoothly with there high specs and modern Operating systems. Some of my favourite programs which I use are;
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Dreamweaver CS3
Sony Vegas 8.0
Counter Strike 1.6
Flash CS3 Pro.
Photoshop - I noticed for me, Windows runs this program a little less smoothly in comparison to Mac, There are two reasons why I prefere Windows for this Application,
1. It fills the whole screen and theres nothing Overlapping or getting in the way.
2. The hotkeys [this is only a personal Preferance ofc]
Dreamweaver - There is no doubt that I prefere the MAC for this application but the reason I cannot specify, Its runs ever so slightly smoother I would suppose.
Sony Vegas 8.0 - This came out on Windows first [as usual] and I found for making videos, Windows Excelled in Rendering my videos at almost 25% faster, Except when I was editing my videos and organsing my videos, my MAC excelled and everything was alot smoother.
Now, Counter-Strike,
This game was never released and never modded to play on MAC. then the Windows Emulator came out, and to clear the water, it’s Shit. I can’t stand it. All the alogations that it was faster than real Windows is rubbish. Windows wins on CS 1.6
Then there was Flash CS3 Pro.
I thought that making designs on MAC was easier and smoother yet once again rendering it to a flv. I found Windows was faster.
Overall, I prefere Windows but I cannot Mock MAC’s at all because they are equal and sometimes much better than Windows, they last longer, the are more reliable except when it gets down to the deep shit, like compiling, rendering, running 3d Apps, where I have to say.. Dire.. Except Overall they are very equal systems but the Advanced user normally routes back to Windows.
Why? I cannot say.
Who? I cannot Prove.
When? Its always been that way.
I hope that sometime in the present future Apple MAC may merge with Windows and make the Ultimate Operating system.

Windows is far better than Mac because Windows is the most widely used and it allows for better programming. NASA, the US Army, just about every major company, or corporation in the world is using Windows. MAc is for the art losers who just need to do things like modify pics, make lousy home videos, etc.

I have had Windows 2000, XP, and Now Vista Home Premium for the past 15 years and I have never goten a virus. Yes I have had spyware and ad-ons but I have Webroot Anti-virus that takes care of that. I have tried a macontoch and recieved a virus. I called Apple and told them I had a virus. 20 minutes on hold and they tell me I have to buy another $800 MAC!

ok…mac isnt better, not because more people use windows, or because its more reliable…i would say both os’s have their major faults when it comes to reliability…however i say windows is better cause its filing system is more user friendly, it makes more sense than a macs…and the files of course can be stored and organized faster, and easier! im not saying macs filing system is bad…just absolutely rediculasly confusing. ive also noticed, when you delete a file on mac, its gone, forever! no getting it back! windows runs faster, look at the benchmarks people, and everytime i use leopard…yes i own mac
safari, garage band, and imovie constantly goes no responsive and i find myself looking at help files every 3 seconds…i also found out that safari RUNS SLOWER than explorer. MAC DROLL AND WINDOWS RULES

Okay, Mat, shows how much you know because Solaris is more used as a server not an OS. Linux and Unix are basically the same thing and BSD is a Unix/Linux distributor.
Viruses are created by the same companies that make the anti-virus programs. Macs do have viruses, but not nearly as much as Windows. Like Conor says, it’s because Windows has more users.
And the fact that Windows has more users doesn’t mean shit because there are tons of operating systems out there that are better than both Windows and Mac and the majority of people haven’t heard of. And by the way, the US government and NASA may have Windows in their offices, but they tend to store and do more important things on Linux/Unix.
Anyway, neither is better than the other. I have a Mac Leopard and Windows XP (have and will eventually again dabble with Unix/Linux) I prefer Mac, but that’s just because of the kind of work I do, which is art and music. Macs have better sound and graphics. It also provides less problems because it doesn’t have all that extra crap running that Windows does, which makes it simpler to use. Plus, I prefer the Mac GUI to any other. However, Windows is more compatible, so gaming is the main thing it’s good for. And like the topic of this, Windows is more secure because it has so many security programs pre-installed. (Then again that could also be a drawback because it could block a lot of things you do and slow processing time.) I generally use my Mac for anything art, picture, music and video related and Windows for gaming, websurfing, and word documenting/Excel/Powerpoint.

It’s not faster or easier. You’d have a better argument comparing Vista to Windows 95 than anything out right now.

Nicole, did you ever take the time to think about those facts? Sure Mac users may have more intelligence and money but is that from the Mac or is the Mac itself a result of being aimed more at that particular group. Since usually the more intelligent person will have a better job providing more money they feel they can afford a Mac, while the normal people cant always afford the best so the settle for what they can get.

macs>windows. most people who hate macs have never tried them? User friendly windows? pfft windows (especially vista) is a bugging piece of crap compared to OSX. FIght all you want, as a windows user for 17 years, I recently switched to Mac and honestly wish I would of earlier. I also have windows on the new macbook but I rarely ever need it, maybe off and on for a windows-based program. that’s it.

I love my Mac, and I work extensively with Vista as well,
its a pain to use Mac for s/w development at times coz you will always find suport for Vista compatible stuff - not so much for the Mac.
Plus, for the price of a Mac, they should make it lighter.

mac clearly beats any version of windows. i was stuck with xp for 7 years. it was 7 years of hell. all i used it for was music and video and the internet and it couldnt even handle that right. constantly crashing, especially explorer.. internet explorer just sucks off safari. safari loads so fast and IE just gives you viruses. vista IS a piece of crap OS. it started out sucking and it will always suck. read about it, microsoft even said it was a mistake. leopard has so many more useful features. and one thing that really gets on my nerves is when people say windows is better cause it has more games.. a computer is meant more for productive things, like photo editing, work related things, browsing the internet, video editing etc. a mac clearly dominates windows in this. games are just a silly waste of time, its not real, never gonna be and if you win who cares what do you get out of it anyway. face the truth, its pointless.. a good computer can run its programs smoothly and without error, and lets be honest hear, mac is the winner. macs cost more for the same reason a nice car costs more than others, better performance and parts. think about it, would you rather replace your computer every few years (windows) or use the same one for a decade without losing much performance and reliability (mac). the choice is yours..

Parallels supports windows system on a Macintosh computer. I have it, I use it. Its simple and easy. You can have both and not worry. And believe me, its hard to make a virus for a mac. I cannot even find a working extension to make one work. the closest you can get to doing anything similar to a virus is using Script Editor. And that cannot do much. My opinion: Mac is good, Windows is good. Windows has more virus’s but Macintosh is overpriced. Just buy Parallels if you have a mac and have both. Then you can use Windows on your mac. Simple.

yea i like pc’s better beacuse of their versitile amount of software and hardware. yes it’s true that macs have premade little apps to work with however you can get apps off the internet that are a hundread times better + you can get GAMES
and i hate the fact that no one makes viruses for macs THAT “S THE ONLY REASON THEIR SAFE from them also i enjoy the fact that you can install Linux, or Mac on a pc harddrive (kickass)
also the amazing range of hardware to choose from to make your pc just the way you want it.

alright, the way i see it is mac is good, i have only used it once so im not going to say im an expert but a lot of people are either big mac fans or big windows fans
but unlike windows mac makes its own computers so they know what type of hardware will actually work and theres no constant lack of RAM or processor speed
but people who use windows need to be smarter when upgrading to vista or even xp, now, i have to finish my computer class

Macs can run Windows, sure, but Windows does not only run itself. You can install some excellent operating systems like Linux (any one of the hundreds upon hundreds of distros), Solaris, OpenSolaris (it’s user friendly enough for students to use it now, but make sure it does everything you normally do better than your current operating system does before making the switch), FreeBSD, etc.

Windows is not crap. OSX is not crap. It all depends on what you like to do with your computer. Me, I’m a multimedia freak, I’m a musician, I’m a gamer (I’m emu, which means I play emulator games), etc. and Windows Vista executes my computing needs flawlessly.
On the other hand, there is a MacBook Pro in my house (not in my possession) that I have worked with and I am very glad I got a Dell Inspiron 1420 with Windows Vista. At least for my computing needs, Mac is no-good at getting anything done.
Pardon the randomness, but operating systems are like hair styles. You may prefer a certain hair style over another, but that doesn’t mean that a hair style can be any “better” than another one. Hair is hair, so see it for what it is. Operating systems are operating systems, so see them for what they are. Now pick your style and go for it, whether it be kind of the DOS getup or the retro UNIX-look.

Apple does have viruses, but because all their hardware is the same, they can send fix alltheir computers without the need of a third party, so no anti virus software is necessary, although it’s still available. I use both, but prefer a mac, and that’s my personal preferance. Windows is more prone to viruses because more people use it, and because their hardware is inconsistant support would be nearly impossible from microsoft, so a third party is needed. And depending on the company, it may work well or not. I also believe that some of those companies make viruses to stay in business. Also a lot of the windows users here talk a lot more smack than the mac users, who seem to be keeping they’re cool.

hi i will tell you why do people say windows is better than mac which is really insensible. first off people must know that windows was not a copy right os(operating system) so people started to take copies all over the world then windows made it a copy right which they gained much reputation although macintosh os was still standing in the time that windows wasn’t copy right which simply mac is better but it costs money , second when windows dominated the os’s ,people started to make programs for windows platform and thats the reason why people say its better; in fact windows with the best anti virus cant reach mac security thats because mac works on a list of copy right programs which in the system so any harmful data’s gets blocked and thats not because mac doesn’t have viruses but its also an advantage so you don’t have to worry and one more thing , i dare any of windows users to remove their anti viruses softwares and say (i didn’t have any problem with security).
and remember price isn’t something people compares with it as expense never determines how good things are .

Uhh for all you MAc users that think MAc is taking over try visiting another country and tell me how many macs are running over there, They are non existent in our future superpowers like India and china. China wont even acknowledge them as a real operating system, they just laugh when someone brings up the word MAC. Mac is for people who are just plan too stupid to understand and troubleshoot a real problem every once in a while. Surfing porn, creating stupid sideshow videos, and making podcasts that NOBODY listens to! isn’t all a computer is used for. Windows has some flaws because unlike your basic and expensive mac it does EVERYTHING!
MAC -> more expensive -> does about 1/8 of what windows does

You want sleekness, get a mac.
If you want a computer that you can twist to make it work exactly and specifically for you, get a Windows machine.

Mac: Short for Macintosh, as in the Macintosh Computer.

I have switched completely to mac and have 2 macbooks at the moment. All I can say is that I am not going to buy another pc unless I have to. I do duel boot windows vista ultimate (regrettably) and OS X. I spend 99.9% of my time in OS X and use vista for halo 2. I have had no trouble with my macs in the slightest and guess what, I got my macbook for free by trading a pc for it. The only thing microsoft made that I like is the xbox, office, and halo. Since I do all web deving, music and video editing, a mac will get the job done 1500000 times faster than windows. I run vista via bootcamp and guess what else? It runs faster in boot camp on a 2.16ghz macbook pro than it did on my pc with a 2.8ghz quad core processor! Yes windows does have a bigger compatibility range than mac, I will not deny it. But mac will do anything a pc can do and more. I will be erasing mt vista partition soon and installing xp or ubuntu on it because vista was a joke period. Wanna stay with pc? stay XP.

Look people. The only reason anyone chooses to argue about this subject is because they need to justify their purchase decision based on the fact that they can’t afford both systems. I am a COMPUTER user. I love computers period. I use both high end Windows machines as well as high end Apple computers. I have never dabbled in Linux, though I would very much like to. A friend of mine at a major animation house says that most of the systems there are Linux. As far as all of you UNIX fans go, just to let you know Mac OS X is a Unix based operating system built on technology that was developed at NeXT in the 80s. Apple bought the company and received a UNIX 03 certification after 10.5 was released on the Intel machines. For all of you Windows fans go I just feel like informing you that the core systems for both windows and mac os are the brain child of Steve Jobs.
I do music professionally for a living in a large format recording studio. All we use here is apple computers. They excel at music production and some graphic applications. I also do 3D art and animation as well as independent game design. I will tell you this between the Mac and my Windows Vista machine there is ABSOLUTELY NO CONTEST when it comes to graphics. My windows machine eats the Mac for lunch when it comes to handling scenes in 3D applications like Maya or Zbrush also in 2D apps like photoshop and painter and likewise in compositors. I have done comparisons that are very processor and buss intensive. All of these comparisons have been done native without the use of external dsp or rendering hardware. Having the same scene open in Maya and Zbrush as well as Silo on both the apple and the windows machine, both machines with almost identical specs, and the windows machine handles very intense scenes so much better than the mac. I also did a comparison in After Effects and the compositing was way smoother in the windows machine as well as the rendering being 25% faster at least. The mac does have some good up and coming apps like Shake which is an excellent node based compositor. Aperature is also a great app. However, all of you mac fanboys that think that Macs rule at graphics please do some research.
As far as professional level audio is concerned, to me there is no substitute for a Mac. I use Pro Tools and Logic on a daily basis and the ease of use and quality of production are unrivaled. Transferring session files through the use of idisk is so utterly convenient.
I think the main portion of the appeal of the mac is the lack of requirement for maintenance. Most of the people who complain about windows machines are oblivious when it comes to maintaining a machine. My windows machine is well maintained and I will tell you that it is a monster. The real truth is that the market share is reversed. Most people should be mac users because of the lack of need for regular maintenance. If you maintain a windows machine well it will serve you well period.

well first of all when at first windows came out, mac was a trashy operating system next to windows u feel like u wanna take that mac computer and throw it in the dumpster while comparing it with windows, years after years things with windows started getting better when XP came out (XPERIANCE) , mac was already history , at this point microsoft didn t realize whats goin to happen later on with diffrent operating systems like UNIX mac because they owned the universe with windows XP now generations after generations mac started to get better as a hardware and software at the same time, well windows is only software but mac went the hard way both hardware and software cause microsoft doesnt have microsoft PC’s lol…… so as mac think they are smart that they keep telling people dont compare mac with a PC , cause PC sucks this way they are comparing their software against windows and they are comparing their hardware against : SONY VAIO< DELL<ALIENWARE<SHARP<HP<IBM etc…. those are hardware PCs using microsoft now if im gona get the most advanced PC as a hardware looking at IBM compared to MAC hardware MAC is garbage , HP engineered hardware next to MAC ill actually PEE on a mac hardware ,Alienware hardware will never reach mac hardware, but the problem is people mac are so materialistic about their out side stuff focusing on their outside material but inside nobody knows but GOD, so people look from outside not inside second people should never compare MAC UNIX to anykind of windows, because windows in based on more artistic language on windows you can develop and identify and program what your doing u can run billions and billions of highly disighned softwares from diffrent company s opened to anyone u can run mostly all games everyone started playin games on PC from when windows started , mac started focusing on games just now when they found out their hardware sucks and they had to share with diffrent companies like nvidia and intel cause without those companies they would be going no where …. 2nd problem is people think that when vista came out slow s their computer and it have alot bugs but tell you what with the sp1 upgrade it will shit on leopard operating system because when the new imac came with new leopard, leopard didn ‘t come on old mac hardware systems it came on highly upgraded hardware systems , so if you wanna use vista well try getting a hardware like alienware something compared and blow out mac hardware , 3rd thing people are so idiot mostly here in states they think they always get viruses ive been using windows for almost 20 years never got a virus and never my computer slowed down because windows is based on registy which fucking hackers deploy and exploit viruses which messes the registry up but they are also stupid because till now they never realized how to deal with windows since u get a mac so expensive price which u think no viruses come into it, why don t you balance that into an expensive PC like sony vio and buy only two softwares with one good security software and a registry software and that all you will ever need to make windows keep running reliable but people here will never get the idea will get free virus scan never fix registry , and never update , all they do run free software cause if you have mind don t be stupid and do that because windows let you do that but mac dont, what im trying to reach you cant compare windows to mac unix, because windows is language is pure intelligence script u can do anything u will ever want, but tell me what u can do on a mac play music, surf web play vidio see family pictures all those softwares mac use based on the programming language softwares based on windows on unix offcourse windows but mac read diffrent formats, i use mac but in my opinion what ever that company reach they will never impress me they are fake…. one more thing i need to know why mac didn t know how to make their own office softwares and distributed microsoft word into their mac ????? cause they can t reach what windows did in programming they failed that what all the other programs are based on WINDOWS ……………

Macs are pretty-looking machines, but let’s face it - they weren’t made for the computer savvy. Macs were made for people who want to do 2 or 3 media related tasks without really having to know anything about the OS or how software works. Plus the fact that you can build a PC yourself (something you can’t do with a Mac) with equal or superior performance to the best Mac for a fraction of the price is enough to question the logic of buying a mac. PCs are generally more versatile, with better software and peripheral support, better for gaming (even with parallels there’s no DX, and one mouse button doesn’t cut it), superior for networking (who uses a mac for a server?!), and more affordable. Are there less virii and spyware on Macs? Sure… for now. Universal binary will make them more vulnerable in the future, and most intelligent PC users know how to recognize and avoid a virus. PCs also tend to win most benchmarks. There are good things about Macs but they are simply not practical in comparison to PCs.

I am an advanced windows user. I just got a mac to try out and i am addicted to it. If i had to say, Windows is better than mac because of its wide use, but mac is much better than windows when it comes to audio and video.
