WLNP is a real mess here in Italy. I think it has been a failure. And it works well only for pre-paid contracts, without any penalty. Moreover, if you choose to move to another operator, usually if you are a good customer (big spender) your previous operator calls you to offer you something like 300-400 euros of credit if you don't move. You can imagine what happens when someone takes advantage of this to get traffic from this or that operator for free...

I am not surprised that the major players are silent on this, going as far as calling it a non-event. An article on <a HREF="http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2007/03/14/tech-number-portability.html" rel="nofollow">CBCNews.ca</A> sites handsets tied to carriers and locked-in contracts as two reasons why these companies do not expect any changes and, as one executive quoted in the article stated, believe things will continue to be "busniness as usual."
(Sorry if the html tag doesn't work to create a link in the comment. The title of the article is "Cellphone number portability has barriers" in case you want to check it out.)

Did a quick check to see if the main players said anything about WNP. Fido's site is down, Bell is taking 5 min and not fully loading, Telus has nothing and Rogers is all quiet.. Not much happening, Unfortunately.
