[...] So enough about Duncan; what’s on Talking Tech this week. We start with Guelph, Ont.-based Geosign, which had been an extremely low profile company until it raised $160-million of private equity earlier this week. Geosign operates 185 Web sites, which attract about 35 million unique visitors a month. For more on the company, check out an interview I did with CEO Ted Hastings. [...]

Guelph is home to another web publishing company - www.recycle.net. Has been around for more than 10 years and in fact predates Geosign. They are publicly traded as GARM.OB. They have a large network of sites and do business internationally. They generate unique users in the millions but not as high as Geosign's 35 million.

Hey Mark - attended last night's CPRS event on "Blogging" and was keen to get home and read your posting on Geosign...very cool that the CEO and his P/R company were able to see the value of your keen interest - I think this bodes well for the city of Guelph as well since it has as you say been long known for things such as Sleemans, agriculture and its vet school.

Just before dashing kudos to you, Matt, Stuart and Jasmine for an amazing discussion on the topic of blogs...being relatively new to the blogosphere itself I will definitely look forward to reading more for all of your postings. Keep up the good work. Cheers,

I had heard about Geosign when it started up and, at that time, was trying to do URL links to geographical location. But once they changed its executive team after a couple of years I thought it had gone away but obviously they went into hibernation and came up with a different business focus that appears to have traction.

Around our office in Waterloo, Guelph is also known as the wussy town that closed its schools because the temperature dropped to -20C yesterday.

That's interesting about Geosign, though. I had no idea there were any web content companies in our otherwise tech-heavy region.
