How do people find new blogs? Well, according to a new report from Vizu Answers and Ad Age, it’s not through search. They suggest that two-thirds of blog readers find other blogs through links on other blogs while recommendations account for about 23%. Search engines such as Google account for 19.6% while blog search engines are used by 5.6% of blog readers. The study also found that two-thirds of blog readers read to be entertained, 43% read to keep up with personal interests or hobbies, one-third read for education and 12% for business. Numbers sound about right. That’s why we need to encourage bloggers to cross link more to our other blogs
(when the blog posts are related)
I only bother visiting any web 2.0 site if someone else says it’s good, for instance.
I also have only found my favorite blogs while visiting other blogs. I’ve only searched using Google Blog Search or Technorati a few times, and without good results. Learning about a site from a trusted blog is more important and relevant to me than a search result.
Another good way to find new blogs is through comments because many of the people who leave comments usually have something interesting to say, and tend to write interesting blogs as well.
