With Duncan Stewart aboard as our “third wheel”, this week’s Talking Tech kicks off with a lengthy discussion about Nortel Networks and the strange parking lot rage incident involving Joel Hackney, a senior v.p., who recently admitted to being guilty of assault, false imprisonment and uttering threats after he confronted a young women in a parking lot after she honked her horn at him for cutting her off with his SUV I wrote several posts about it on my Nortel blog, which saw heavy traffic and tons of posts, many from Nortel employees.
We also spent some time discussing the impending launch of wireless local number portability on March 14 in Canada, and why the carriers and the media have been so quiet. Of course, the carriers are less than thrilled because they’ll have to offer better customer service – and perhaps sharper pricing – to keep customers. None of us believe, WLNP will mean better deals for consumers.
As the resident financial expert in the house, Duncan touched up Oracle’s $3.3-billion bid for Hyperion, which competes against Ottawa-based Cognos Inc. in the business intelligence market. Finally, I got to plug the mesh conference, which unveiled its keynotes speakers this week, and put tickets on sale.
