What about the Motorola Q?

January 8th, 2007 Posted in Main Page, Wireless

In the wake of Motorola’s disappointing fourth-quarter guidance, there wasn’t a lot of talk about the Motorola Q, which was positioned as yet another Blackberry-killer earlier this year. When the Q was launched, Motorola was bullishly talking about selling three million or four million units in 2006. While I haven’t seen any specific Q numbers, NPD Group recently issued a report that the Q was the top-selling smartphone from August to October, and overall there were 715,000 units sold. According to Kenneth Leon, an analyst for Standard & Poor’s, Motorola’s wireless phone sales are flagging because the Razr is losing some of its buzz; while sales of the Q, may be slowing.

Bought one, probably wouldn’t buy another one. I’ve done a few posts on my experience with the Q - largely it’s a decent enough device but it’s got some strange quirks that drive me up the wall - atrocious battery life being the key issue… this sucker needs to be given juice at least once a day or it’ll be dead by the next morning. Basically it looks great but has a crappy personality.

On first impressions, the Q is pretty cool but it lustre was lost shortly after I started to actually use it. To be honest, it has to pass the Blackberry sniff test (be better, more reliable and have a longer battery life) before I’ll even seriously consider using something else.

Trouble shooting the lock up of the Q……………
I have a Q for 2 months and today for the first time it locked up. I tried to remove the battery and it did not restart. Do I have to take it in? Is all the info on here lost? I sync with outlook but the calendar is not recorded. Any advise or experience.
