We Finally Got the Pearl!
October 4th, 2006 Posted in Main Page, Wireless/Research in Motion
Well, well….the Blackberry Pearl has finally arrived in Canada after so much hype - and a huge run up in Research in Motion's stock price. The Pearl will be available through Rogers Communications, which is also the exclusive carrier for the Nokia E62 and the Samsung C907. The Pearl will sell for $249.99 on a three-year contract. It will interesting to see if Rogers - and Bell and Telus when they get the Pearl down the road - become more creative with their data plans given the Pearl is more of a consumer device. Jim Balsillie, RIM's co-CEO, has talked about how many carriers are looking at pay-as-you-go or lower price data plans to encourage consumers to adopt the Blackberry.

Yeah it's up on the website…but you can't buy one. Nor are they available at Circuit City. Anyone know if the Rogers stores have them?
Figures.
Who runs Rogers marketing and web apparatus, Cookie Monster?

cheaper data rates? you mean even cheaper than “$3,600 per hour”?

what wonderful consumer-friendy services will they think of next?
as far as i can tell the cariers don't have a data “service”. If anything, what their offering are (and just like the $40/month hotspots) is more like a denial-of-service attack against cheap and usefull free or flatrate highspeed wireless … and the threat of skype-over-EVDO or skype-over-wifi killing the golden cow of their voice minutes.
damnit, I want my skype over EVDO.
and hydro one wireless is no help. have you tried to connect to it? it's such a sham. but that a whole other gripe…
