No Blogging for You, Mr. CEO!

Shel Israel has a short, but totally-on-the-mark, post about why CEOs should not blog. In an age of Sarbanes-Oxley, class-action lawsuits and equal disclosure, there's really not much, if any, insight that CEOs (edit: of publicly-traded companies) can offer up. You have to think anything written by CEOs - if, in fact, they are actually the ones putting them together - are carefully scrutinized by corporate counsel and investor relations people. As Shel concludes, CEOs should spend their time “with their families or playing”, and leave the blogs to other employees. (I had a chance to meet Shel briefly a week or so go when he came up to Toronto to plug his new book. It sounds like we could talk for hours on what's happening these days.)

    Mark…I think you mean, that Public Company CEO's shouldn't blog….Private companies have a lot to gain from it.
