Canadian VoIP Podcast

I did a podcast earlier this week with Jon Arnold about the outlook for VOIP and what's going on in Canada. You can download it here – although the sound quality isn't ideal. We touched upon the outlook for Vonage and Skype, and what some of the Canadian ILECs and cablecos are doing.

Great podcast. On Rogers, I'm willing to bet that in 2006 Rogers will not market aggressively on price. My gut is that Videotron is an outlier. (And IMHO the Rogers four-play isn't really marketing on price – it's feature-disabled, and is really about marketing on the four-play.)
My bet is that Rogers markets on features and the four-play, betting on co-opetition with Bell to carve the telephone market up between them at the fattest margins they think the market will tolerate. Neither wants price competition. Rogers wants as much of the market as it can take without too much of Bell's blood on the floor, and Bell wants to preserve the topline as much as possible and see where this is going. And that this won't change until there is at least a third and possibly a fourth serious player in any one market.
    My $.02.
