Technology Even Homer Simpson Would Love

July 24th, 2005 Posted in Main Page

It's summer and the beer is flowing but perhaps not has smoothly as it should if you've run into one too many pints with too much foam and not enough liquid. This is where technology comes to the rescue with a new tap that can pour a 16-ounce beer in about two seconds. Called the TurboTap, it works by using a stainless steel tube that fills a glass from the bottom up. This apparently produces a perfectly poured beer with a half inch head. It shouldn't be too much of a surprise that one of the TurboTap's first large-scale customers is Wrigley Field, whose concession operators claim beer is poured quicker and, as important, they're getting five to eight more beers out of keg because there is less waste - a.k.a. pouring foam/beer down the drain. The TurboTap is the brain-child of Matthew Younkle, who was “inspired” while standing in line for a beer at the University of Wisconsin. Well done, Matthew!
