Back on the Music Backwagon
I spent eight hours of the Canada Day weekend driving between Toronto and Sudbury. If there was a silver lining to being behind the wheel for a mind-numbing period of time, it was the opportunity to listen to the radio again. Slowly but surely, I'm re-discovering my interest in music again and - surprise, surpise - interested in buying CDs. One of my big challenges when it comes to music is knowing what's out there and what's new and exciting. It as a nice surprise to listen to a new CBC show called “Fuse”, which features host Amanda Putz and three songwriters. On today's show, the performers were Andy Kim, who is probably best known for writing “Sugar, Sugar”; Gentleman Reg, and Danny Michel. Some time this week, I'm going to buy a couple Danny Michel CDs. Maybe it's just me but I'm thinking the music industry may see some people who have been using P2P services, purchase CDs again or buy legal music online. What with potential legal action, viruses and spyware, the P2P is a dangerous place. iTunes' success has not only boosted iPod sales but hopefully got people thinking about using legal services. You may never convince the 15-to 24-year-old crowd to completely back away from P2P services but maybe older people with money and maturity may “go legit”.
