Mark,
Local Number Portability should be transparent. I had set-up my call forward from POTS to VoIP and when LNP kicked in, I had no downtime whatsoever.
We'll see how attractive the proposal to switch to VoIP will be on May 12 when the CRTC releases its decision on VoIP.

I've used Primus VOIP on the Cogeco pipe for 14 months - I went cold-turkey and dropped Bell - if I had a 'family home' environment - I would probably do what you did and keep it simple. Easy for Rogers to diss their competitors - just wait, they dont have a 5mps pipe as far as I know. The way I see it the biggest impact upon VOIP QOS is the 'bad' days on Cogeco when the speed is down to 2mps or less (by the way the top speed I ve ever seen is 4.4mps). Nobody ever mentions this - but it is my favourite thing - you are off-the-grid to telemarketing calls! I have found that Primus is fantastic on conference calls (4 others plus the intiator) so simple and nobody has ever said I didnt hear that or what did you just say. It is a powerful service at the right price.
