I symapathize with you. I did bump into a GM of PalmOne at CTIA. He got an earful from me ;-) They are in some seroius deep thoughts on the future. The future may include their own mail servers like RIM. A lot of the problems may also relate to the service provider. Rogers is hacking a solution until a couple of weeks ago when they went with a 3rd party app.
I lost my Treo 600 and now I am using a Blackberry 7100. I HATE the fucking thing. No touch screen with lots of scrolling. Navigating through the Treo is a breeze. Yes, the email is rock solid. I had problems with email on the Treo but it was related to our stinking Notes environment. The web experience on the Blackberry does not even compare to the Treo. I missed it so much I am actually thinking of shelling our $800 for a Treo 650. But, the whisper from CTIA is 3 and 5 Megapixel phones will be in NA by Christmas ;-) I will wait and see what these beast looks like. Hardware GPS enabled phones are also coming this year from Motorola.
The carriers are also having some challenges with their MMS and email services for smartphones. Overall, I did like the sound quality better on the Treo.
The future is so bright I need to wear sunglasses!

A friend also has a Treo. He keeps asking everybody 'did you get the email?' The reply is 'no'. He blames his Treo. I can't image how much business he's losing by having unreliable phone and email.
