VOIP Revenue Growth

April 3rd, 2005 Posted in Main Page

One of the lessons I learned from the dot-com boom was to be cautious about bullish projections from consulting firms with a vested interest in stoking market enthusiasm. With this caveat on the table, Insight Research expects the global VOIP market will more than double to $196.5 billion by 2007 from $82 billion this year. Most of the growth will apparently come from businesses, although Gartner predicts nearly 20% of U.S. homes will have VOIP phones by 2008. Both these estimates fall under the category of “optimistic”, and depend on a couple key assumptions. Among them is the expecation businesses will readily adopt VOIP beyond greenfield and branch office location, and consumers will get on the VOIP bandwagon as cablecos and carriers apply marketing muscle to drive bundles..
