A New and Improved IE?
By Mark Evans | February 16, 2005
Because Bill Gates says IE7 will be so much better and include all kinds of new security features, some people such as CNet's Molly Wood are already predicting the death of Firefox. “If a standalone IE 7 is even 50 percent more secure than current versions, the Firefox rebellion is finished,” she wrote.
It seems strange someone who knows the industry so well would get suckered by a Bill Gates sales pitch. Wood seems to believe all Microsoft needs to do is spiff up IE, and Firefox will soon become the next Netscape. Frankly, I think Wood is missing the point that there is a groundswell of computer users, including myself, that have been looking for a viable browser alternative, and found it in Firefox. Sure, Firefox is far from perfect from that's the nature of the open source movement. Rest assured, though, that Firefox's development community will continue to innovate and eliminate many of the issues some people have with it.
To assume, IE7 will restore order in the browser world is misguided. Microsoft has no choice but to do something dramatic with the next version of IE but it's going to take much more than an aggressive marketing campaign and speeches at conferences to stop the Firefox movement.

You will notice that the press for IE 7 mentions nothing about being more standard compliant. I am soooo looking forward to more hacks to make standard compliant code work in IE.
