Cisco Bullish

December 8th, 2004 Posted in Main Page

Cisco Systems helds its annual analyst day yesterday - an event where you learn everything you wanted to know about the world's largest telecom equipment maker and more. In contrast to his subdued performance during its last quarterly call with analysts, CEO John Chambers came across during analyst day as enthusiastic and bullish. According to CIBC analyst Steve Kamman, the company is looking for “faster-than-market-growth via share gains, expansion into adjacent markets, and 10% to 15% revenue growth over 2004-2008.” As well, Chambers said Cisco has seen a “slight upturn” in business confidence in recent weeks. Given Chambers' every word is measured and carefully scrutinized, this is a very confident statement. Not sure what it says about Nortel, Lucent, Alcatel and Junipe, but it shows Cisco is pretty confidence the next five years are going to be alright. For a good overview on the battle between Cisco and Juniper, check out Om Malik's blog. He contends Juniper's giving Cisco all kinds of trouble - including the launch of a new router that matches Cisco's CSR-1.
