According to In-Stat/MDR, 12% of U.S. companies are now using Internet
telephony technology compared with 3% in 2003. Adoption has been
particularly active in the larger business market where In-Stat expects
penetration by year-end will be 34% and 43% for middle and large firms
respectively.
In-Stat analyst Daryl Schoolar said consulting services are playing a key
role in VOIP adoption. “Each installation requires a certain amount of
customization,” he said.
The importance of consulting was borne out in recent comments by Bell Canada
senior executive Karen Sheriff who said recently the carrier's 450,000 small
and medium business customers have been cautious about VOIP due to concerns
about cost and installation pains.
